Aggregate Storage Methods for Concrete Batching Plants

Brief Introduction:The storage system of a ready-mixed concrete mixing plant can be of three types: underground type, star-shaped type and steel in-line bins.

Aggregates are an important raw material of concrete. While we are familiar with huge silos for storage of powder materials, we are not necessarily clear about storage methods for aggregates. Generally speaking, a ready-mixed concrete mixing plant consists of a storage system, a delivery system, a measuring system, a mixing system and a control system. The storage system can be of three types: underground type, star-shaped type and steel in-line bins.

The underground type refers to a warehouse composed of an underground storage bin, a lower corridor, and a horizontal belt conveyor. The spacing of each silo is about 4 to 6 meters, and sometimes aggregates can be directly measured underground. The advantages of this structure are that the material yard is directly used as a silo, the volume is large, the aggregate loading is simple, and the efficiency is high. An under ground warehouse is usually used for a stationary concrete batching plant.

The star-shape storage yard is generally used together with a shovel. It usually stores 3 to 6 types of aggregates of different sizes. The aggregates are separated by partition walls. The partition wall consists of compartment pillars and partitions. A star stock yard must be grounded with concrete, which prevents aggregates from being contaminated by other materials like soil. Sometimes even drainage systems and heating facilities are equipped.

Steel in-line silos have advantages of convenient transportation, relatively small floor space, and no dead material zones, especially suitable for a portable concrete mixing plant.
